B's fall to the Blues 5-1 in sixth straight loss

The Bruins lost their sixth straight game with a disastrous 5-1 fall against the St. Louis Blues.

Tonight's healthy scratches were Daniel Paille, who has been struggling mightily all season, and Craig Cunningham - both of whom usually slot in on the fourth line. Tonight's contest also marked the NHL debut of forward Brian Ferlin.

It was Jake Allen of the Blues against Malcolm Subban, in his first NHL appearance, in net for the Bruins.

The Bruins were sent on the power play only 1:36 into the first, as Ian Cole headed off for hooking David Pastrnak. The B's didn't get many good looks with the Blues easily making the kill. The Bruins struck first, with Brad Marchand's bid going off Allen's glove to put the B's up about halfway through the first. With 7:45 left in the first period, Subban made his first save on a bid from Alex Pietrangelo. The Bruins were given their second power play opportunity with 26 seconds left in the first, but the Bruins were unable to strike before the horn.

The Bruins started the second with 1:35 left on the power play. David Krejci was called on tripping, and the Blues struck back immediately during 4-on-4. Subban thought he gloved it but the puck bounced off and over as Petteri Lindbohm tied the game up with his first NHL goal. The Bruins were able to level the playing field by drawing a slashing penalty on Backes to bring the game back to 4-on-4 hockey. Alex Pietrangelo scored the go-ahead goal, beating Subban glove-side. When TJ Oshie put the Blues ahead by 2, Tuukka Rask took Subban's place between the pipes. After an exchange of penalties, Adam McQuaid blocked a shot that richocheted to Vladimir Tarasenko, who put the Blues up 4-1.

The Blues were put on the power play about five minutes into the third as Marchand went off for cross-checking. Tarasenko scored his second of the night to give the Blues a four goal lead with just over eight minutes left in the third. With just over six minutes left in the third, Subban was put back in net.
