Should Patrice Bergeron Win the Selke Trophy?

With the regular season coming to a close, the NHL Awards are in the near future. This year, Patrice Bergeron is being considered for the Selke Trophy. The Selke trophy is awarded to the best defensive forward in the NHL. So what makes Bergeron a great candidate? For starters, Bergeron currently leads the league in plus-minus with a +34. This is an indication that he is great in the defensive zone and that he contributes offensively. He also blocks quite a few shots considering he is a forward. He is also currently tied for the league lead in faceoff proficiency at 59.4%. Bergeron has also reached the 20+ goal mark for the fourth time in his career. Bergeron is also usually matched up against the opposing team's best players.      Beyond the stat sheet, Bergeron is a responsible player who is great in all zones. He has only missed one game this season which was on April 5th because Bruin's head coach Claude Julien wanted to rest him for the playoffs. Bergeron came in fourth place last year for the Selke trophy. So how does he feel about all of this? Well, in a couple of interviews, Bergeron has said he does not really think about it very much. Although, he said that he is honored to be considered for this award. Well, Bergeron may finally get the recognition he deserves this year. He is the favorite to win the Selke this year but there is a very slight chance that he may not. In closing, Patrice Bergeron should win the Selke Trophy and all Bruins fans are hoping that he can finally take it home this year.
