Bruins, Canadiens to ignite rivalry at Gillette Stadium for 2016 Winter Classic

Today, the National Hockey League announced that the Boston Bruins will be hosting the Montreal Canadiens at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro for the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.

The game will take place on New Years Day, making the Bruins the first NHL team to host two Winter Classics. In 2010, the Bruins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in OT at Fenway Park. The 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic will be the Canadiens’ first Winter Classic appearance.

The possibility of this heated rivalry suiting up for the outdoor game has been rumored for much of the past year, but NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed it today at the NHL All-Star Weekend in Columbus, Ohio.

The Bruins will be holding a contest for one lucky fan to win two tickets to the 2016 Winter Classic by sharing a picture of their favorite outdoor rink, using the hashtags #NHLBruins and #BackOutdoors. Details about the contest are available on bruins.nhl.com.

General information, including ticket sales, will be announced at a later date.
