Linus Arnesson has made his way to New England to play with the Providence Bruins, hoping to adapt quickly to the North American style of hockey. Arnesson is only 20 years old, and has a large 6'2 frame, weighing 192lbs and plenty of room to keep growing. He brings a true black and gold style of hockey and can be quite a shutdown defenseman in today's NHL. He even compares his style of play to fellow Swede and two-time Stanley Cup champion, Niklas Hjalmarsson.
"Nicklas Hjalmarsson of Chicago. He’s a good solid two-way player,” Arnesson said. “I model my play after him.”(via NESN)
If that's the case, Boston has a lot to be excited about. Hjalmarsson can give you more than 20 minutes a night with the ability to shut down some of the NHL's best and kill penalties.
Like Hjalmarsson, Arnesson isn't all that flashy. He can definitely skate up into the offensive play and he does have upside because of his above average skating ability. He also has excellent positioning and rarely makes mistakes coming out of the defensive end. He also plans on playing in Boston within the next year. Sweden does have a lot of grit looking to make an impact in the NHL, and the Bruins have found themselves a stand out prospect.
