Recap - Bruins shocked by Lightning, fall 6-3

For a moment, fans saw a glimpse of the old Boston Bruins when they took an early 2-0 lead in the first period in their matinee matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

But the Bruins reverted back to their new selves - dropping their third straight decision, their second in TD Garden, losing 6-3 to the defending Eastern Conference champions.

To be fair, the Bruins did some good things today. Their powerplay unit finally clicked - with three of their goals scored on the man advantage. Torey Krug tied his career high in single points in a game after assisting on all three of Boston's goals, and Loui Erikksson potted two to keep the Bruins in the game. David Krejci continued his hot start, adding a goal and two assists.

But as soon as Boston would make some headway, the Lightning would answer right back, scoring three unanswered goals before the Bruins would regain their composure with Erikksson's second of the day.

Brian Boyle was the star for the Lightning - scoring two goals, while Steven Stamkos recorded his 500th point with a goal from the left faceoff dot that fooled Bruins starting goaltender Tuukka Rask.

Jonathan Drouin would add some insurance in the third period with his first goal of the campaign, while Valtteri Flippula would add insult to injury, when the puck was redirected off his foot while he slid towards the net to make it 6-3.

Rask struggled again between the pipes, saving 17 shots in the loss. His counterpart Ben Bishop made 27 stops to propel the Lightning to a 3-0 start.

Despite finding some chemistry in the Bruins special teams, and with the return of Zdeno Chara, the Bruins still have a lot of work to do if they are going to come out of this early slump. They face the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday Oct. 14 at 10p.m.
