Phaneuf faces hearing after boarding Miller

Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf will have a disciplinary hearing for his hit on Bruins defensemen Kevan Miller on Sunday night.

Phaneuf boarded Miller in the Bruins' defensive zone with 2:19 to go in the game. Somehow, all of the officials missed the hit, which should have warranted a boarding major and seen Phaneuf ejected from the game.

The replay shows Phaneuf skating towards Miller as he was playing the puck with his back turned. Phaneuf never lets up and shoulders him square in the numbers, drilling his head into the dasher.

This seems to be an easy call for Brendan Shanahan and the Dept. of Player Safety. Phaneuf should have eased himself into checking Miller, or played the body from the side and hitting Miller's shoulder.

Charging at almost full-speed and launching his shoulder into the back of the numbers is not acceptable in today's NHL. Nor should it be.

We'll see how long it takes Shanahan to make his decision, as he's had quite a busy weekend
